The NFIU provides a number of important services to affiliates and members:
Knowledge
NFIU believes that knowledge is power. We provide regular informational updates on the latest judicial rulings and policy changes by government agencies impacting labor-management relations and workplace issues.
Representation
NFIU is dedicated to advancing the interests of its affiliates and their members in the workplace and the public policy arena. NFIU representatives serve on the Labor Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations and Trade Policy, and frequently testify before congressional and state subcommittees to ensure that the concerns of our members are reflected in the legislative decision making process. Assistance to our affiliates in contract negotiations, when requested, and coordination of trade and industry bargaining is also provided.
Innovation
NFIU keeps pace with the latest technological changes. In this vein, we provide on-line information on the latest contract settlements and, more importantly, on the methods that were employed to meet them.
Education
NFIU believes that the education of its affiliates' leaders and members is the key to their success in the workplace. NFIU Leadership Development Seminars, presented by panels of labor experts, members of leading universities and government officials, are held at locations throughout the nation. Contract negotiations, labor law, arbitration preparation, organizing and corporate campaign strategies and other vital union matters are among the subjects addressed by these seminars. In addition, NFIU affiliates are entitled to avail themselves of LIUNA and AFL-CIO training programs and facilities, including the George Meany Center of Labor Studies.
